Hounds are the oldest group of dog from the 7 categories. Hounds were and are bred to hunt game with hunters.
Hounds are categorised into more refined groupings based on what their hunting tasks and include sight hounds such as the borzoi and scenthounds such as the bloodhound.
Hounds of Today
Although today most hounds are kept as domestic dogs it is true that old habits die hard. As hounds often cornered prey then cried out to their masters you will often hear today the low and mournful howls of a dog like the basset hound, quieter breeds of hound may seek the more active opportunities to roam free and search.
Hounds in a household though are still intelligent, lively and highly loyal companions.
